IAAF has final ruling on VCB verdict

Despite Wednesday's disclosure by the JAAA’s that 16-time Olympic and World Championship medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown has received a public warning from its three member disciplinary committee, the Jamaica sprint queen is not entirely in the clear.       According to Wednesday night's terse release from the JAAA’s, the disciplinary committee ruled that Campbell-Brown committed an anti doping violation, contrary to IAAF Rule 32.2a and that "they recommended that a reprimand without any period of ineligibility would be appropriate."

However, the two-time Olympic 200m gold medallist will now have to wait between 10 and 14 days for the doping review board of the IAAF to review the ruling.

JAAA’s President Dr. Warren Blake has declined to provide details of the reason given by the panel for it's ruling but was asked by RJR Sports whether he was confident that the world governing body, will accept the decision.

“It’s not a matter of confidence because what the IAAF will do is go back to the IAAF Review Board, so when they meet they will look at all the relevant documentation which already been sent to them and then they will make a decision as to whether they will let the ruling stand or if they disagree with the ruling, they will appeal it to the Court of Arbitration in Sports", Blake said.

The World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA, also has the option of taking the matter to the Court of Arbitartion for Sport.

Dr. Blake says the JAAA's is seeking permission to publish the reasons behind the disciplinary's panel's ruling.

“They have support their reasons for making the ruling in writing. Infact we are seeking permission from the IAAF to make the findings of the panel, the ruling, public. If they give that go ahead then we will be placing it on our website", Blake added.

Campbell-Brown who tested positive for the banned diuretic Hydro-chlorothiazide at the Jamaica International Invitational on May 4, was represented by former Prime Minister P.J Patterson and American lawyer Howard Jacobs during the four day private hearing at different locations across Kingston.

The other members of the disciplinary panel were Dr. Aggrey Irons and attorney Lincoln Eatmon.
