ICC mandates the use of UDRS in all test & ODI games

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has mandated using the umpire decision review system (UDRS) in all tests and one day internationals (ODI) games following modifications to the umpiring technology.

The ICC's Chief Executives' Committee unanimously agreed to this at a conference in Hong Kong.

This means that India, which had objected to the use of the system for the ongoing series against West Indies series, must do so when they tour England in July.

England's one day captain Alastair Cooke has given his support for the mandatory use of the UDRS.

"I think the UDRS is really good … its’ getting more decision right which is what we need as players and I think you need to use as much technology as you can to make sure we do get those decisions right."

Minimum standards will now include infrared cameras for so-called "hot-spot" and audio tracking devices.

The Hawkeye system that predicts the likely path of the ball is now optional and can only be used if teams agree.

Teams will also have just one unsuccessful appeal per innings in one day internationals.

They currently have two.
