The World Players Association (WPA), the Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), have called on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to expedite its decision into John Campbell's appeal against a 4-year ban.
Campbell, the Jamaica and West Indies opener, was banned in October 2022 for evading, refusing, or failing to submit to sample collection. Attorneys representing Campbell subsequently filed an appeal with CAS in December 2022.
A decision should have been handed down on August 31 of last year, but last Thursday, CAS announced a delay in the announcement of its decision into Campbell's appeal for an unprecedented sixth time. CAS said its decision has now been pushed back to May 31.
In a joint release on Tuesday, the WPA said in tandem with FICA, it stands together with Campbell and WIPA in the fight for fairness, and urged CAS to do what must be done to deliver the award immediately.
The joint release added that the postponement of the decision by CAS for a sixth time without reason, has left Campbell in an unacceptable state of limbo.
