J. Wray & Nephew has terminated its
nearly $500 million sponsorship from the National Premier Football League.
Wray & Nephew noted that after amicable discussions with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), they have released the island's governing football body from its contract without penalty.
The move by Wray & Nephew follows revelations that the premiership clubs have put together a sponsorship deal which is worth twice the value of the current deal.
Wray & Nephew says it is not prepared to increase its sponsorship.
Wray & Nephew came on board in 2002 with a five year contract with the JFF worth $100 million, plus another $125 million for marketing and promotions.
They extended that contract in 2006 for another five years for $125 million until 2012, with an additional $125 million for marketing the league.
Wray & Nephew officials say they stand ready to continue supporting football should any opportunity arise in the future.
