Jamaica made a winning start at the Central American and Caribbean pre-qualifiers in San Salvador for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup after squeezing out a narrow 69-67 win over Costa Rica in the tournament's opening game on Thursday evening.
Jamaica appeared on course for a comfortable victory and led by 8 points entering the final quarter. However, they were pegged back by the Costa Ricans who outscored them 20-11 in the 4th quarter.
Omari Johnson led the way for Jamaica with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Kevin Foster who scored the last two baskets for Jamaica and Joel Bailey had 12 and 11 points respectively. Jamaica will next be in action on Friday against Guyana. starting at 5:00 pm Jamaica time.
