A number of Jamaica's athletes will have to watch Friday’s opening ceremony on television after restrictions to the numbers allotted to Jamaica by the games organizers.
Jamaica's Chef de Mission Ian Kelly told Radio Jamaica Sports on Thursday that Jamaica's allocation has been cut to 40 slots with 33 being reserved for athletes.
He says some slots will be filled by members of the coaching, management and technical support staff. Jamaica initially had a team of 66 track and field athletes, 1 judoka, 2 swimmers and 1 diver.
Radio Jamaica Sports also understands that there will be several restrictions in place for the opening ceremony, as Paris 2024 organizers increase security.
The opening ceremony which has been billed as one of the best ever will be the first to take place outside a stadium and will feature teams in boats along the world famous seine river.
It is set to be the largest in history. Swimmer Josh Kirlew and triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts are Jamaica's flag bearers.
