Jarrett Park in Montego Bay, St. James is being touted as a possible second venue to co-host the CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers set for Western Jamaica starting on Tuesday.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) was left feeling embarrassed and upset on Wednesday after the Trelawney Multi-Purpose Stadium failed to pass a CONCACAF inspection test.
Horace Reid, JFF General Secretary, says a second venue is compulsory and Jarrett Park is now looking like their only option.
"Since (Wednesday) night, the JFF has been in meetings with CONCACAF and also in discussions with the Government. We have two more meetings (on Thursday) and we’re hoping that with the conclusion of those meetings, a definitive position will be taken. At this point in time, Jarrett Park is being highly considered but there are some logistical and infrastructural challenges which I’m hoping to resolve after today’s meetings so we and make an announcement in the afternoon," Reid told RJR Sports.
Catherine Hall, also in Montego Bay, is the other venue that will host matches in the tournament.
CONCACAF deeply concerned
Meanwhile, Ted Howard, CONCACAF Deputy General Secretary, also expressed deep disappointment in the non completion of the Trelawney stadium to host the tournament.
"There’s no grass on most of this field and this is not what we expected after we had assurances from the first time we came here in back in September. We came down and looked at the stadiums and the training field and everything else … this is clearly a major concern to us," he said following a tour of the facility on Wednesday.
