A record breaking crowd of more than 12,000 was on hand to witness David "King" Summerbell, driving his evolution 8 win all three races at the Jamaica Race Driver’s Club (JRDC) Carnival of Speed at Dover Raceway in St. Ann on Monday.
The event dubbed "David versus Goliath" lived up to expectations with Summerbell and Douglas Gore demonstrating sublime driving skills and tactics, which left the fans wanting more.
Summerbell won all three races to be the driver with the most victories on the day.
He started at pole position in the opening modified production class-4 over five laps after posting one minute 18.79 seconds to Gore's one minute 19 seconds.
So with Summerbell entering the first corner in control, Gore, who was still learning to drive the Audi TT, had a mountain to climb if he was to dethrone the king.
It was never to be as Summerbell made it a post to post affair with a fast lap time of one minute 19.67 seconds to take the checkered flag by 10 car lengths ahead of gore with Allan Chen and Peter Rae completing the top four.
Having seen Summerbell's tactics in the opening event, Gore approached the start of the second race over seven laps aggressively.
However, it was to his detriment as having forced Summerbell, whose evolution is a four wheel drive, late braking caused Gore's Audi to spin out.
This allowed Summerbell to turn the race into a procession as he took his second checkered flag ahead of Chen and Rae.
There was some hope for Gore as the thunder sport race over 12 laps started on a wet surface.
The two drivers displayed different driving tactics which had the fans cheering.
For the first six laps there were door to door challenges but with the track drying out, Gore found it more difficult.
With three laps to go, Summerbell applied the pressure and Gore's Audi had no answer as the king sped away to continue his reign at Dover.
