Kingston Hummingbirds crowned Elite League champions

Kingston Hummingbirds are champions of the Netball Jamaica Elite League after a thrilling 52-50 victory over last year's winners Manchester Spurs in the final at the National Arena on Sunday.

The Hummingbirds who needed overtime to beat St Ann Orchids in the semi-finals, made their presence felt from the opening quarter as they finished ahead by a goal 16-15.

The second quarter was equally as close and the teams could not be separated at the break with the game 28-28 at half-time.

The third quarter proved to be the most pivotal for the Hummingbirds, as they opened up a 7 goal gap outscoring the Spurs 15-8 to go into the final stanza 43-36 in front.

However, any hopes the Hummingbirds had of an easy finish were dashed when the Spurs started closing the gap in the final quarter.
The Kingston franchise managed to hold on in the end, winning by 2 goals to write their name on the title.

Goal shooter Tracy-Ann Francis was superb for the Hummingbirds, converting 43 goals from 49 attempts, while Tania Thomas had 9 from 13.

Top shooter Amanda Pinkney scored 39 goals from 49 attempts, while Aaliyah Hibbert supported with 5 from 11 for the Manchester Spurs.
