Local women's football programme takes another hit

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Renardo Brown

The development and progress of the local women's football programme has taken another hit after the late withdrawal of two teams from the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) on Friday.

The 2024 competition will be without Royal Lakes FC and Rangers FC after they both withdrew, sighting unforeseen circumstances.

A Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) release on Friday night also stated that Vere United would forfeit their game against Real Mobay due to a lack of preparedness.

Meanwhile, Shanhaine Nelson scored a 5-timer for Cavalier to dispatch Proven Girls 12-0, as the JWPL kicked off on Saturday at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at UWI Mona.

In the day's other game, first half goals from Reana Dixon and Nashalee Powell lifted Mile Gully to a 2-0 win over Springers United.
