Olympic champion Omar McLeod is now the fastest athlete in the world for 2021 over the 110 metre hurdles after posting 13.01 seconds to win the event at the Florence Diamond League meet in Rome on Thursday.
McLeod who had the second fastest time in the world this year coming into the meet, having done 13.08 seconds at the FBK Games in the Netherlands on Sunday, finished well ahead of the field as he also equalled Allen Johnson's meet record which was set in 1999.
McLeod's time bettered the previous world best of 13.07 seconds which had been set by world champion Grant Holloway in April.
Britain's Andrew Pozzi ended second in a season's best 13.25 seconds with Wilhem Belocian of France third, also in a season's best 13.31 seconds.
In the women's 100 metre hurdles, Jamaican Megan Tapper was fourth in 12.94 seconds. The event was won by Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in a meet record 12.38 seconds. Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas was second in 12.80 seconds.
