Mexico's run at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup has come to an end after they were beaten 2-1 by the impressive ran. The Mexicans went in search of a quarter final spot but were hit early by Iran.
The game was only seven minutes old when the CONCACAF champions fell behind, Mohammad Sharifi converting from the spot. Four minutes later, the Mexican defence looked out of sorts again, and Allahyar Sayyad made them pay as he doubled Iran's lead.
The Mexicans settled thereafter to cut the deficit in the 37th minute through Roberto de la Rosa, but they couldn't find another, which allowed Iran to march into the last-eight against European champions Spain. The Spaniards booked their passage also with a 2-1 victory over France.
England, who had a perfect group stage run, were pushed all the way by Japan before getting the job done on penalties. The two failed to break each other down after 90 minutes, it was down to a shootout with england holding their nerve to advance. Mali scored the biggest victory of the day as they eased past Iraq 5-1.
