Mona and KC into Manning Cup semis, STATHS eliminated

Heavy favourites and former champions St Andrew Technical have been knocked out of the ISSA Manning Cup competition after going down 2-0 to Mona High in their final group one match on Friday at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Robinho Gordon put Mona ahead in the seventh minute and that was extended by Denzel McKenzie in the 21st minute to book their spot in consecutive Manning Cup semi-finals.

STATHS were suffering a second straight defeat and finish bottom of the four team standings.

Kingston College earned the second spot under dramatic conditions after going down 2-1 to St Catherine High at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

KC went down to ten players in the first half and were trailing 2-0 and looked down and out of contention. However, the “Purples” found a consolation in stoppage time to finish second.

The next two semi-finalists will be decided on Saturday when defending champions and hosts Jamaica College take on group leaders St George's College.

JC must win to advance, while STGC need only a point. Hydel who have four points need only a draw against the out of contention Tivoli High at the Spanish Town Prison Oval secure their spot in the last four. The matches kick off at 3:00 pm.
