National coach and Technical Leader with the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), Maurice Wilson says the performance of the various teams at the recent World Relays in Guangzhou, China is the clearest indication yet that the rest of the world is catching up, in regards to their development pathways.
Speaking with Radio Jamaica Sports, Wilson said Jamaica's dominance of the sprints and in particular the relay races, was helped by the country's athletes having superior foot speed compared to the rest of the world.
Wilson claims that what took place in China was a combination of several factors including technical deficiencies the and poor planning on the part of Jamaica. Meanwhile, on the issue of athlete availability, Wilson says the JAAA has to start looking at the next generation.
Only two Jamaican teams, the women's 4x100 metres and the men's 4x400 metres, qualified from the World Relays for this summer's World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The men's 4x100, women's mile relay and mixed 4x400 metre teams will have to seek alternative qualifying opportunities for the World Championships before the qualification window closes on August 24.
