West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 29 year old Pooran made the announcement via social media on Monday with a post to his instagram account, saying the decision came about after much thought and reflection.
Pooran leaves the international arena as the most capped West Indian in T20 internationals, having played 106 matches and also the leading T20 international run scorer for the Windies with 2,275 runs.
Renowned commentator Fazeer Mohammed, while speaking on Hitz 92 FM's "Sports Grill" on Monday, said the real reason behind Pooran’s decision remains mystifying.
Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has extended its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Pooran for his outstanding contribution to West Indies cricket.
A release from CWI described Pooran as a world class player and a game changer, noting that his performances on the field and influence within the team have made a lasting impact on West Indies cricket.
