Jamaica's senior Reggae Girlz got off to a good start in the CFU Women's Challenge Series after defeating Barbados 3-2 at the Captain Horrace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies. The visitors took the lead in the 29th minute through Kalcia Garvey; however five minutes later, Kevena Reid equalized for the Jamaicans.
Fifty-eight seconds later former national youth player Shantal Bailey gave the Jamaicans the lead heading into the half time break. In the 49th minute Rushana Pallache extended Jamaica's lead before Rayanna Pirus cut the deficit as the match ended 3-2. Up next for the Jamaicans will be a match against Cuba at Drewsland on Sunday at 5:00 pm. In the opening match of the series on Wednesday, Cuba defeated Barbados 7-0.
These games are being used to prepare the three teams for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers which begin next month. Jamaica will face Haiti, Guadeloupe and Martinique in the prelimenary round of the qualifiers.
Only the top team from this group will advance to the CFU final round in July.
