missed out on a century as West Indies reached within eight runs to avoid the
follow on, on Monday's third day of the opening test against Sri Lanka at the Guyana
national stadium in Providence.
West Indies, resuming the day on 29-1 in reply to 476-8 declared, closed the day 269 for 9 with Jerome Taylor unbeaten on 22 and Darren Powell on six.
Sarwan fell for 80 after 262 minutes at the crease and he added 53 for the sixth wicket with Ryan Hinds
Hinds, who batted with a runner because of a right hamstring strain he sustained on the first day, made 37 and helped Sarwan add 53 for the sixth wicket.
Denesh Ramdin 38, Sulieman Benn 28 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul 23 were the other main contributors against Chaminda Vaas 3-45, Muttiah Muralitharan 3-104 and Thilan Thushara 2-59.
