Scintillating performances by Fraser-Pryce, Weir at Senior Championships

Olympic medallists Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce and Warren Weir turned in scintillating performances over 200 metres as the curtains came down on the four-day National Senior Championships at the National Stadium on Sunday. 

Fraser-Pryce who took the silver medal in the half-lap event at the Olympics last year, dismissed the field to defend her national title. Her time of 22.13 was a world leading mark and just off her personal best of 22.09. It was a MVP sweep as Sherone Simpson snatched second place in a respectable season's best 22.55 ahead of Anniesha McLaughlin also a season's best 22.58. 

Weir, the Olympic bronze medallist blazed to a new personal best 19.79 to win the men's 200 metres. Nickel Ashmeade, 20.06, and Jason Livermore, 20.13, were second and third, respectively. 

In the 400 metres, Novlene Williams-Mills produced a season's best 50.01 seconds to win the women's event ahead of Stephanie McPherson, 50.28 and Patricia Hall. 51.13.  

Javere Bell sped to a personal best of 45.08 to win the men's equivalent ahead of Calabar schoolboy Javon Francis who also produced a personal best of 45.24, and 

Akheem Gauntlet, 45.48.

Danielle Williams took the women's 100 metre hurdles in 12.69 while in the field events Kimberly Williams leapt a 14.40m in the triple jump, which would have been the qualifying standard for the world championships but the effort was wind aided.
