Seegobin casts doubt on Tokyo Games going ahead

Athletes’ agent Cubie Seegobin says with the preparation of athletes for the Tokyo Olympic Games being seriously hampered by the Covid 19 pandemic, his doesnt see the Games happening this year.

In addition to the World Indoor Championships being cancelled and Diamond League meets being postponed, Seegobin also pointed out that his athletes’ training has been set back by the closure of the training venues such as the National Stadium and the UWI Usain Bolt Track in Jamaica.

Seegobin says the uncertainty is becoming too much for athletes and not only  in track  and field. "I don’t see us being able to go to the Olympics. They are just playing games. This is getting worse and worse and worse. People keep saying this is on and that’s on,” he said.

Seegobin who manages Jamaican track and field athletes such as Yohan Blake, Warren Weir, Demish Gaye, Danielle Williams and Anastacia Leroy, says the IOC must take the health of the athletes into account in their decision making.

“At the end of the day, you have to look out for what is in the best interest of the athletes. They are putting the athletes’ lives at risk and it’s nonsense,” argued Seegobin.
