Taylor breaks national 800m record at NACAC Senior Championships

Jamaica's medal tally at the NACAC Senior Athletics Championships has increased to 18 after tallying 9 more medals so far including 2 gold on day 2 of the 3-day championships in the Bahamas.

Nikoali Williams took gold in the men's long jump with a mark of 8.16 metres, while teammate Shawn-D Thompson took bronze with 7.87.  

National champion Samantha Hall also won gold in the women's discus with assistance of 61.19m. 

On the track, Christopher Taylor secured silver in the men's 200 metres with 20.32 behind Canadian winner Aaron Brown 20.37.

Gabrielle Matthews took bronze in the women's 200 metres behind Bahamian Antonique Strachan who posted 22.77 to win.

Malik James King took silver in the men's 400 metre hurdles after crossing the line in 48.28 seconds ahead of compatriot Assine Wilson who took the bronze in 48.75. The event was won by CJ Allen of the USA in 48.22. In the women's equivalent, Sanique Walker took silver in 54.94 seconds.

Tyrice Taylor clocked a new national record of 1 minutes, 1:43.74 seconds for third in the men's 800 metres which was won by Handal Roban of St Vincent and Grendaines in a meet record 1:42.50 seconds.

Previous Jamaican national record holder Navasky Anderson was 4th in a personal best 1 minute, 44.18 seconds. 

Anderson had set the previous national record of 1:44.61 seconds in June. Kelly-Ann Beckford took bronze in the women’s equivalent in 2 minutes, 17 seconds.
