Thompson among eight Jamaicans for Zurich Diamond League

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson and former world record holder Asafa Powell headline eight Jamaicans down to compete at the IAAF Zurich Diamond League meet on Thursday.

Thompson is slated to contest the women's 200 meters along with compatriot Simone Facey as well as Dutch woman Dafne Schippers, Bahamian Shaunae Miller Uibo and Ivory Coast World Championship silver medallist Marie Josee Ta-Lou.

Meanwhile, speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, Thompson revealed that this will be her last race of the season and that she has no plans to contest the sprint double until the 20/20 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In the meantime, Powell is slated to face new world champion Justin Gatlin in the men's 100 meters which will also include South African Akani Simbine and Britain's Adam Gimili.

Christania Williams, Schillionie Calvert and Jura Levy will contest the women's 100 meters. Danielle Williams will line up in the women's 100 meter hurdles where she will face new world champion Saly Pearson of Australia and American World Championship silver medallist Dawn Harper-Nelson. 

Kimberly Williams will battle world champion Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela and Colombian silver medallist Caterine Ibarguen in the women's triple jump.
