Thompson-Herah gets closer to world record at Eugene Diamond League

Two time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah continued her phenomenal form this season as she once again rewrote the record books to win the 100 metres at the Eugene Diamond League meet in the United States on Saturday.

In what turned out to be a procession for Jamaica's Tokyo Olympics podium trio, Thompson-Herah sped to an amazing 10.54 seconds to better her previous national record and world-leading 10.61 seconds she ran in the Olympic final

Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce was second in 10.73 and Shericka Jackson third in 10.76. Another Jamaican, Briana Williams was 8th in 11.09. The much touted American ShaCarri Richardson was 9th and last  in 11.14 seconds.

Meanwhile, Olympic finalist Janieve Russell ended 5th in the women's 400 metre hurdles clocking 54.50 seconds behind American winner and Olympic silver medalist Dalilah Muhammad 52.77.

Two other Jamaicans, Rhonda Whyte 55.67 and Leah Nugent 55.86 ended 7th and 8th respectively.
