Ackeem Blake and Tajay Gayle copped the Diamond Trophies for the 100 metres and long jump respectively on Friday’s opening day of the season-ending Diamond League finals in Brussells, Belgium. Blake took some big scalps in earning his maiden Diamond Trophy win.
The 22 year old stormed to 9.93 seconds, taking down the likes of former world champion Christian Coleman 10 seconds flat, and Olympic bronze medallist Fred Kerley 10.01.
Gayle will also hoist the Diamond Trophy and pocket the US $30,000 prize after topping a quality long jump field.
He leapt to a season's best 8.28 metres to defeat Switzerland's Simon Ehammer 8.16 and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou 8.15.
Meanwhile, Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell is one of 9 Jamaicans who will be in action on Saturday's second day.
World champion Danielle Williams and national record holder Ackera Nugent face off in the women's 100 metre hurdles.
The trio of Andrenette Knight, Janieve Russell and Shiann Salmon will battle it out against the likes of Olympic bronze medallist Femke Bol in the 400 metre hurdles.
World Under 20 record holder Roshawn Clarke goes in the men's equivalent and is joined by fellow Olympian Malik James-King.
The ever improving Romaine Beckford will look to continue his breakout season in the men's high jump contest.
