Former world number one Venus Williams emphasized the value of hard work to the more than 40 young players who participated in a 2-hour clinic this week.
The sessions with Venus and current world number one Serena were spread over two days at Tryall in Hanover and Treasure Beach in St Elizabeth.
Venus commented on the passion of the young players.
“The kids were amazing, enthusiastic, they loved the game. We love the sports center here because we know sports is so crucial for young people, so it’s amazing what is happening here and we would love to come back”, she said.
When asked what would she advice would she leave for the young Jamaicans, Venus responded,
“Listen to your parents, listen to your coaches… give 100 per cent every single time”.
Former national representative Khadija Richards, who is the national junior tennis coordinator, says the Americans' visit will make her job a little easier.
“The kids got a chance to play with them, they know some of the things that they need to be working on they know what it takes, they gave them some pointers of what it takes to be a professional tennis player. Those of them who hope or aspire to do that they now ha e a framework to work with and an example of what it takes”, Richards mentioned.
Venus and Serena were in the island on the invitation of former national number one Karl Hale, who is now an agent to some of the world's top players.
