The much anticipated extra-ordinary audit of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission by the World Anti-Doping Agency will go ahead next week.
According to Dr. Herbert Elliott, Chairman of the board of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO), “WADA will be sending three officers to Jamaica next Monday and Tuesday (October 28 and 29)”.
Dr. Elliott did not provide the names of the WADA officers who are expected to carry out the extra-ordinary audit of JADCO.
This latest development comes on the heels of WADA's President, John Fahey, vowing to take action against JADCO, including possibly deeming the country "non-compliant" with its drug-testing responsibilities.
In an interview with the UK Telegraph, Fahey described as “farcical” JADCO’s decision to defer an extraordinary audit of its Anti-doping programme until the new year.
David Howman, WADA’s Director General, had planned to lead a commission to Jamaica to investigate allegations by Ann Shirley, former JADCO Executive Director, that the Jamaican agency conducted no drug tests in the five months leading up to last year’s Summer Olympics.
In August, Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller of Jamaica had extended an invitation WADA to visit the country for talks pertaining to JADCO.
