The West Indies will head into their final Group B match at the ICC Cricket World Cup needing just to avoid a heavy defeat against India to secure a place in the quarter final.
The West Indies’ likely progression was made easier after South Africa crushed Bangladesh by 206 runs in Dhaka to eliminate the co-hosts.
Jacque Kallis top scored with 69, Hashim Amla made 51, and Francois du Plesiss 52 as South Africa made 284 for 8.
Rubel Hossain had 3 for 56.
Robin Peterson then snared 4 for 12 and Lonwabo Tsostobe then grabbed 3 for 14 as Bangladesh were bundled for 78 runs.
Shakib al Hassan 30 was the only player who got into double figures.
South Africa now have secured top spot in the group with ten points, three ahead of second place India with West Indies, England and Bangladesh all on six.
