WI lose final ICC World Cup warm-up match against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka defeated the West Indies by 4 wickets at the R. Premadasa Stadium in their final warm-up match on Tuesday ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2011 on February 19.

Chasing 282 for victory, Sri Lanka posted 282 for 6 off 47.3 overs with Captain Kumar Sangakarra top scoring with 71, Tilikaratne Dilshan getting 62, and Thilan Samaraweera 55 against Suliemann Benn who captured 3 wickets for 40.

Chris Gayle and Andre Russell each took 1 for 42 while Captain Darren Sammy had 1 for 29.

Earlier, Gayle hit a blistering 58 off 39 deliveries which included 6 fours and 1 six to help the West Indies post 281 all out from their 50 overs, after electing to bat.

Darren Bravo also chipped in with 54, Ramnaresh Sarwan 39 and Carlton Baugh Jr 9 before being forced to retire hurt.  

The West Indies will play their first match in the tournament on February 24 against South Africa in Group "B".

Another defeat for Australia

In other warm up matches on Tuesday, defending champions Australia will go into the World Cup with two straight defeats after losing by 7 wickets to South Africa.

Australia were dismissed for 217 in 47.1 overs with Michael Clarke hitting 75 and Captain Ricky Ponting 55 against Dale Steyn’s 3 for 21 and Robin Peterson 3 for 45.

Captain Graeme Smith then hit 65, Hashim Amla 60 and Jean Paul Duminy 47 not out to guide South Africa to 218 for 3 off 44.2 overs.

Ahmed Shehzad with 103 and Misbah ul-Haq 100 carried Pakistan to an 89 run win over Bangladesh.

Pakistan first posted 285 for 9 before dismissing Bangladesh for 196 with Abdul Razzaq taking 3 for 31.

A century of 103 from Elton Chigumbura could not prevent Zimbabwe, which posted 244 for 8, from losing by 4 wickets to Ireland, 245 for 6, in 49.3 overs.

And the Netherlands, with 264 for 8, defeated Kenya 263 for 5 by two wickets.
