Jamaica finished 12th in the medal table at the 18th World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia after securing gold in the women's 4x400 meters and  bronze in the women's triple jump on Sunday's third and final day to end with three medals overall.

The team of Junelle Bromfield, Janieve Russell, Roneisha McGregor and individual medallist Stephanie-Ann McPherson, clocked a season's best 3 minutes, 28.40 seconds to finish ahead of the Netherlands, 3 minutes, 28:57 seconds and Poland 3 minutes, 28.59 seconds.

This was only the second time in the history of the championships that Jamaica was taking gold in the women's 4x400m with the quartet emulating the gold medal winning team from the 1993 edition in Toronto, Canada.

The other medal for Jamaica on the day came from Kimberly Williams in the women's triple jump as she leapt a season's best of 14.62 meters to add to her silver from the 2018 edition in Birmingham.

The event was won by legendary Venezuelan Olympic champion and world outdoor record holder Yuilmar Rojas who added the indoor world record to her glittering resume.

She registered 15.74 meters on her final jump of the championships. Despite leading for most of the way, Natoya Goule had to settle for 4th in the women's 800 metres in a time of
2 minute, 01.18 seconds. The event was won by American Ajee Wilson in a season's best 1 minute, 59.09 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia topped the medal table with 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze, becoming the first African nation to do so and the first time that another country other than the USA has topped the table since 2004. The next edition of the championships will be held in China in 2023.
