Emmy-award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph copped the award for best supporting actress in a comedy series for her role in Abbott Elementary at the 28th annual Critics Choice Award held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Ralph shared a heartfelt speech on stage and credited the late Sidney Poitier for believing in her talents at the beginning of her career.
The cultural ambassador for Jamaica made history last year when her Emmy win became a moment after she included a verse from jazz singer Diane Reeves' 1993 song Endangered Species in her impassioned acceptance speech, garnering a standing ovation.
She became the second Black woman to score an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
