Some 300 Jamaicans are to be trained in coding under phase three of the Technology Advancement Programme (TAP).
The training is being executed through a partnership involving the Universal Service Fund, HEART/NSTA Trust and the Amber Group.
Dr. Taneisha Ingleton, Managing Director of HEART, said enrollees will receive a stipend of $10,600 per week, from which $2,000 will be deducted as compulsory savings.
"[This] becomes accessible by the trainee upon completion of the programme. So we're training them and we're also giving them a little investment so that they can help themselves along the way," Dr. Ingleton explained.
She said 100 trainees will be enrolled in a residential programme while 200 trainees across the island will commute.
TAP is looking to train at least 20,000 coders over the next five years.
