50% of the female population in Jamaica younger than age 50 - PIOJ

The Planning Institute of Jamaica has reported that 50% of the female population in Jamaica is younger than age 50.

The PIOJ has also confirmed that Jamaican women are formally more educated than men with more than 39 per cent of them achieving higher education, compared with only 10 per cent of their male counterparts.

But, despite their higher qualifications, the PIOJ says the compensation packages for women are less than what their male counterparts receive.

Data released by STATIN have also revealed that 45.5 per cent of all households are headed by women.

The information was shared by Clair Bernard, Deputy Director-General of
the PIOJ  at a recently held Scotia Women Initiative Public Forum under the theme: "The State of the Jamaica Woman."
