Digicel to shift to renewable energy for more than half of its cell sites

Telecommunications company Digicel says it aims to reduce its 100 per cent dependence on the Jamaica Public Service Company's grid for its 900 cell sites to 40 per cent, or only 360 sites, starting next month.
 
CEO Stephen Murad says this initiative will be undertaken in conjunction with Caban Energy – a US based renewable energy company. 
 
He says this initiative will to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 38,674 tonnes, and lead to significant savings, annually.
