The University of Technology (UTech) and Sagicor Group recently staged their fifth innovation challenge at which Angel Pinnock, a third-year student at UTech Jamaica, won the top prize for her presentation of a real-time flood prediction and gully management system.
Her Flood Sense system uses the internet, sensors and data analytics to mitigate flood risks and to improve the government's ability to respond quickly.
Pinnock walked away with J$1 million for the top prize.
The UTech/Sagicor Innovation Challenge was held at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St. Andrew on Tuesday.
