BOJ on track to issue new banknotes in June

BOJ Deputy Governor Natalie Haynes

The Bank of Jamaica says all is on-track for the issuance of new banknotes come next month.

BOJ Deputy Governor Natalie Haynes says the distribution should start by the middle of June.

She says the central bank will begin with a partial issuance of the notes as banks are working to retrofit their ATMs for the change.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke announced last year that the circulation of the new notes would begin this year.

The notes will sport a new design, and the material used should make them 50 per cent more durable.

A new $2,000 bill will also be introduced.
