Jam-Dex uptake gradually increasing - Clarke

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says the country is gradually seeing increased take-up of the central bank digital currency, Jam-Dex.

As of February 18, Dr. Clarke said, a total of 190,000 people have signed up for the only available digital wallet, Lynk.

"Of this, we have 185,000 individuals, 90 small merchants and 4500 micro merchants, and the total transaction activity for 2022 was $357 million," he announced.

The Bank of Jamaica has said at least two other financial institutions are working on introducing wallets for Jam-Dex.
