Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says the country is hoping to welcome more than one million visitors this fiscal year as the industry begins to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He says the numbers have been steadily rising since the start of 2021, with over 219 - thousand arrivals raking in roughly US$360 million.
The Tourism Minister as speaking during the opening the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday.
He says arrivals at the end of 2020, were 1.3 million, with 449,271 of that total from the cruise industry.
This represents a 68 per cent decrease from the 4.3 million visitors to the island over the same period in 2019.
Jamaica also recorded US$1.3 billion in earnings, which was a 62.6 per cent decline in comparison to 2019.
