Jamaica's oil bill for January to July exceeds total merchandise exports for that period

Data released by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica last Thursday indicated that the country's oil bill of US$1.2 billion or 28% of the country's total imports during the period January to July this year, was 110.1% of the country's total merchandise exports for the period.

This means that all the money the country earned from its exports of merchandise goods during the period under review could not pay the country's oil bill.
