JP Farms has made its first major shipment of coconuts to North America.
The company says it exported 3,000 coconuts, along with green bananas.
The shipment is scheduled to reach its destination this week.
The company procured the export licence last year.
JP Farms has more than a thousand coconut trees on more than 50 acres of farmland in St. Mary.
Last December, the company hinted at plans to export the produce to Connecticut, USA an intention to expand into other territories. Opportunities in New York are also being explored.
Traditionally, JP Farms has sold its coconuts to local bottling companies.
JP Farms Pineapple and Coconut Crop Manager Tariq Kelly says the company is working on improving coconut fields to increase its overall jelly production and the size and sweetness of the crop.
