Trade deficit of US$3.8 billion for January to September

Data released by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) reveal that net inflows of US$1.23 billion was generated by the tourism sector between January and September of last year.
 
Net remittances of US$2.35 billion was recorded during the same period.
 
These were not enough to cover the trade deficit of US$3.8 billion racked-up during the first eight months of last year.
 
The trade deficit measures the difference between merchandise imports and exports.
