Tropical Battery to start collecting lithium batteries for recycling in 2022

Tropical Battery will begin collecting spent lithium batteries for recycling in early 2022.

The St. Andrew-based company on Wednesday announced that it has secured the requisite certifications.

It will export the spent lithium batteries from consumer electronics and electric vehicles to be recycled by a leading international recycling partner that recovers 95 per cent of the elements for sale back to global battery manufacturers.

The spent lithium batteries will be collected in specialised receptacles at Tropical Battery's six locations across Jamaica.

The company is offering a five per cent discount on in-store purchases to customers who bring in spent lithium batteries for recycling.
