122 COVID cases and five more deaths confirmed

There has been a further increase in COVID-19 cases in Jamaica with 122 cases of the virus were detected from 653 samples on Tuesday.
 
The positivity rate is 16.1 per cent.
 
The country's overall case count is now 51,404. 
 
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health reported there had been a noticeable increase in the rate of infection over the last two weeks.
 
National Epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster Kerr, told the sitting of the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic and Related Matters that COVID trends in Jamaica are heading in the wrong direction.
 
Five more coronavirus related deaths have also been reported in the country.
 
They include a 49-year-old man from Kingston; a 71-year-old St. Catherine woman; and three women from St. James, aged 74, 75, 84.
 
The death toll is now 1,163.
 
There are 111 patients in hospital with the virus. Eleven of them are critically ill.
