The 16-year-old B.B. Coke High School student accused of assaulting a schoolmate, leaving him hospitalised, was granted bail Monday when he appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court.

The Grade 11 student was offered bail in the sum of $300,000 with surety.

As a condition of his bail he is to report to the Junction Police Station on Mondays and Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

He is also to surrender his travel documents and have no contract with the complainant whether directly or indirectly.

The teenager was handed over to the police on Friday following an  investigation into the violent attack on a 14-year-old student at the St. Elizabeth-based school Thursday.

Investigators reported that the 14-year-old was attacked and knocked unconscious after he accidentally stepped on the shoes of the elder student at the gate of the school.

The injured boy was transferred to a hospital in St. Andrew on the weekend where he is receiving treatment.
