Commodore Antonette Wemyss Gorman to become JDF's first female chief

For the first time in its history the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is to have a female head.
 
The Defence Board has appointed Commodore Antonette Wemyss Gorman to the post of Chief of Defence Staff, effective January next year.
 
Commodore Wemyss Gorman will be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral.
 
Following a meeting of the Defence Board on Wednesday, the retirement of Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Rocky Meade was approved.
 
General Meade served the JDF for 38 years. 
 
He was appointed Chief of Defence Staff on December 1, 2016.
 
Commodore Wemyss Gorman has served the army for 29 years.
 
She assumed the post of Force Executive Officer in January 2020.
