Hearing of the lawsuit filed by stakeholders fighting against mining in the Dry Harbour Mountain and the Cockpit Country has been put off until next month.

Public Defender Arlene Harrison Henry gave an update Thursday on Radio Jamaica's call-in programme, Hotline.

Mrs Harrison Henry said the matter was mentioned in the Constitutional Court on Wednesday.

"It was intended to be the first hearing but there were a number of applications and the matter was adjourned to March 23rd," she revealed.

Bengal Development Limited was granted a licence to mine the Dry Harbour Mountain in St. Ann despite the initial refusal by the Natural Resources Conservation Authority and the National Environment and Planning Agency.

However, a group of residents have sued the Government and Bengal Development saying mining in that area would breach their right to enjoy a healthy and productive environment.

They are seeking a permanent injunction against mining on the property.
