A curfew has been imposed in sections of St. Catherine until July 1.
The curfew took effect Friday evening based on an order issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Griffiths under the Emergency Powers Regulations for St. Catherine.
The curfew covers areas in Tawes Pen and Ellerslie Pen, 31 St. John's Road, Central Village and Gregory Park.
Persons in the areas specified in the order will be required to remain indoors from 8pm to 5am.
The security forces have been trying to quell an upsurge in violence in various sections of St. Catherine.
On June 17 Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a State of Emergency in the parish.
