Dr Paul Robertson, in his first national broadcast after becoming PNP General-Secretary in 1983
Former government Minister and parliamentarian Dr. Paul Robertson has died.
He passed away on Saturday at St. Ann's Bay Hospital where he was admitted a few days ago.
Dr. Robertson served as Member of Parliament for St. Catherine South East and also as Deputy General_Secretary, General-Secretary and Vice-President of the People's National Party.
PNP President Mark Golding paid tribute Dr. Robertson, describing him as a man of great integrity who made an immense contribution to Jamaica's democracy and the PNP.
Phillips
Former Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Peter Phillips said Dr. Robertson was among several senior PNP stalwarts who were instrumental in the Party's rebuilding efforts after its devastating defeat in the 1980 election.
He also cited his role as well as the reform of the national electoral process.
Dr. Phillips, who served alongside Dr. Robertson during the PNP administrations of 1989 to 2007, said his fomer colleague's his efforts also helped to minimize the tribalism usually associated with the electoral process.
