EOJ announces next-day service for Letters of Identity

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says effective Thursday, requests for Letters of Identity at its head office will be processed as a next-day service.

Previously, electors could receive the letter the same day.

In a news release on Tuesday, Director of Elections Glasspole Brown cited concern for the health of the EOJ's staff and the public amid the Omicron variant of COVID-19 as the main reason for the change.

Mr. Brown said, since last week, there have been large gatherings at the EOJ's head office daily as individuals request and collect Letters of Identity.

Since January 3, electors who are in the process of renewing their Voter ID card can request a Letter of Identity from the EOJ to be used as a provisional identification document.
