National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang and Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, Communication Officer for the JCF
Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang has announced a 96 hour curfew for Central Clarendon, including the community of Effortville where five residents have been killed in the last 48 hours.
Speaking at a media briefing Friday afternoon, Dr. Chang said the curfew will begin at 9 o'clock Friday night.
He said the security forces will "make every effort to apprehend a number of the critical players out there" to allow normality to return.
Dr. Chang has urged the business community to cooperate with the anti-crime measure, noting that while it is bound to disrupt their business, "the gang war will do worse disruption to commerce."
Earlier on Friday, Mike Henry, Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, called for a special security measure to combat the spate of crime and violence in sections of the parish.
Despite the deployment of police and soldiers, gunmen continued their deadly rampage in Farm, Effortville on Thursday night.
A couple was killed while walking in the community about 8 o'clock.
Superintendent Christopher Phillips, head of Operations for the Clarendon Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the incident is believed to be a reprisal for Wednesday's attack in Farm in which six persons were shot, three fatally.
Investigators have linked the killings to a dispute over a motorcycle.
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson has deployed additional cops to Clarendon.
Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, Communication Officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, said teams from the Criminal Investigation Branch and the Major Investigation Division have also been assigned to assist detectives in the division.
