Gov't allocates more than $10m to fight infectious diseases

The Government of Jamaica has allocated more than $10 million to strengthen the national surveillance, prevention and control of infectious diseases project.
   
The objective of the project is to strengthen Jamaica’s response to the Chikungunya virus and prepare for the threat of the Ebola virus.
    
The project aims to improve national surveillance systems and establish an institutional coordination mechanism.
    
A National Integrated Vector Control Plan has been developed to deal with all vector-borne diseases.
   
The project is funded by the Government and the Inter-American Development Bank.
