Winter storm in the US triggers cancellation of Jamaica-bound flights

The huge winter storm in the United States has resulted in flight delays and cancellations from that country to Jamaica.

MBJ Airports Limited, operator of Sangster International in Montego Bay, announced the cancellation of three flights Saturday morning.

A United Airlines flight that was scheduled to depart for Atlanta, Georgia, and two American Airlines flights that were to arrive from Charlotte, North Carolina, have been affected by the snow storm.

Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport has also confirmed that Delta Airline cancelled a flight from Atlanta Friday night.

Passengers are urged to contact their airlines for updates on flight departures prior to going to the airport and for rebooking.

A massive winter storm is blanketing the American South with ice and record-breaking snow, with some cities seeing the most snowfall from a single storm in decades.

Twenty states, from Texas to Delaware, were on alert Friday for snow and ice as the storm continued to move across the South.

The storm has prompted several governors to declare states of emergency, including those in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennesse and Texas, to prepare for and respond to the severe weather.
